XDI cluster

Thanks in part to generous donations from Altera, a cluster of one XD2000f and four XD1000 development systems from XtremeData Inc. is available in our lab and supports a variety of research activities in reconfigurable and dual-paradigm computing. This server technology features the most powerful Stratix-II FPGAs made by Altera (Stratix-II 2S180 -3) on a small board that operates in an AMD Opteron socket of a multiprocessor Linux machine. This relatively new approach to RC systems architecture offers many exciting, potential advantages due to the close proximity, high bandwidth, and low latency between FPGA and microprocessor devices via HyperTransport. More information on the XD1000 and XD2000f modules and development station is available here.
