Marvel machine

The largest single machine (by CPU count in one chassis) in the facilities of the HCS Lab is Marvel, a new 16-core Linux symmetric multiprocessor with 32GB of memory, 1TB of RAID storage, x16 PCI-Express, and PCI-X (133MHz). This new machine replaces its predecessor and namesake in the lab, an HP/Compaq ES80 AlphaServer. A list of basic specifications for the new Marvel is as follows:
  • Tyan Transport VX50 (B4881) Barebone Server with S4881 and M4881 motherboards
  • 1350W (3+1) Redundant Power Supply
  • 8 x AMD Opteron 880 Dual-Core Processors (2.4GHz) - 16 total cores
  • AMD Direct-Connect Architecture with nVidia Nforce Professional 2200/2050 Chipsets with Dual PCI-E x16 Slots
  • 32GB ECC Registered DDR400 Memory (Using 16 x 2GB modules - 16 open slots for expansion)
  • 4 x 250GB SATA2 Hard Drives, 7200 RPM connected to 3Ware 9550SX-4LP Card, 4 Hot-Swap Bays
  • 24X Slimline CD-RW/DVD-ROM Drive and 1.44MB Floppy Drive
  • Integrated ATI RAGE XL Graphics with 8MB Video memory
  • 4 x SATA II-3GB/Sec Disk Interface onboard (RAID 0,1, 10 supported)
  • 2 nVidia MAC Gigabit Ethernet ports
  • 6 slots: 2 PCI-Express (PCI-E) x16 graphics & I/O, 3 Full-Height PCI-X Slots(1 @ 133 MHz, 2 @ 100 MHz), 1 Full-Length PCI Slot
