Kappa cluster

The Kappa cluster consists of 35 Linux servers. This cluster was made possible thanks to the generous support of Intel and their donation of Xeon microprocessors and motherboards. Each of the SMP nodes in this cluster consists of the following:
  • Dual 2.4GHz Intel Xeon processors with 533MHz front-side bus and hyper-threading
  • Intel SE7501BR2 (Kappa 1-20) and SE7501CW2 (Kappa 21-35) server motherboards
  • On-board 1 Gb/s Ethernet
  • 1GB of Kingston Registered ECC DDR PC2100 (DDR266) RAM
  • 64-bit 100MHz PCI-X (Kappa 1-20) or 133MHz PCI-X (Kappa 21-35) bus
  • 40GB IDE drive @ 7200 RPM
  • Intel SC5250-E server case with 450W power supply

Special features:

  • Assorted FPGA-based reconfigurable computing (RC) boards from Nallatech, Celoxica, and Tarari
  • 5.3 Gb/s 2D and 3D Scalable Coherent Interface (Dolphin D337 PCI64/66 Wulfkit cards) donated from Dolphin Interconnect Solutions
  • Gigabit Ethernet (Cisco CAT2948G-GE-TX switch) donated from Cisco Systems
